TKT Tutorial - The Wild Take

You want to give your picture that classic cartoon bit known as the "Wild Take." The person's eyes bug out because they got struck by the booty bandit or just saw their 800 phone bill, providing instant comedy. Here's how to do it.
I'm going to show you the Photoshop way first. So everyone else can follow along but you may not be able to work with layers. First you start with the eye that you will need to do some cropping with. This will be the one that provides some dimension to the shot. In your Mask layer, fill a circle of appropriate size.
Then you'll need to cut it up so that the selection will not be covering any of the character's face. Then create an equal sized circle for the other eye. Now you'll leave your mask layer. Invert the selection if necessary so you get what you see to the left. This can be done without mask layers, but you'll have to hand draw each eye seperately with a selection tool.
The first thing you do is fill the area with black. Then contract the layer one pixel. Then you'll fill the selection with a color that matches the original eye color.
The end result should leave you with something like this. Already it has a three dimensional look to it.
Finally, you'll airbrush black to represent the pupils. Have them facing generally in the same direction. You can have then going helter skelter if you need a more comedic effect than normal, but be consistant. Using an airbrush helps make the eyes look rounder. In the above picture, I took it a step further for Godzilla '75 since his eyes were white, and drew another dot inside the pupil. I used green since his eyes were of a normal color. The Godzilla '75 Wild Take is slightly more advanced than the Battra Larva Wild Take.
