| 1. Here's your basic picture. The text is the most important part of the picture, so type your text and format it with the word balloon in your mind's eye. |
2. Go to your quick mask layer. Draw a box that neatly surrounds the text. Don't worry about centering, you can center the text layer later. |

| 3. Use the tool of your choice to point the text in the direction of the person speaking. I use this particular select tool to draw an arrow. |
4. When you go back into the normal layer, you'll see this. If your art program doesn't have a mask mode, you'll need to hand draw the word balloon with a selection tool. |

| 5. Create a new layer, invert the selection, fill with black, reduce the selection one layer, then fill with white or just invert the color. You'll have the finished word balloon when you deselect. |
6. You'll have this as your finished layers. text, word balloon, art and background. You can select thetext layer and inch the text around to center it properly. If you messed up the balloon, you just have to delete the layer and start over. |
